Please please please understand that when you see media stories about stuff like this from AI companies, this is PR. They wrote this story and pitched it to media outlets. None of this is real. OpenAI does some version of this every six months or so. It didn’t happen. It’s fiction designed to attract attention and seed the idea that their technology is oh so powerful, so scary powerful that even they might not be able to contain it. This is meant to attract investors. That’s it.

I worked in technology PR for eleven years. That was before the AI bullshit, but it’s the same game. Believe me. There was a brainstorm meeting when they came up with this and someone wrote it on a whiteboard (or maybe these days it was a figjam). Actually, now that I think of it, they probably just had Claude write the pitch.

It. Didn’t. Happen.

Also, be aware that the media outlets reporting this slop also know it’s bullshit.

“hostile takeover” using the communication of ideas and persuading people to vote — so, literally ‘democracy’. Disagree on policy all you want, but if you’ve got a problem with the act of democracy, I humbly suggest that you aren’t a “Democrat” and democrats should ignore any guidance from you.

Boycott, divest, and sanction is just a start. I suggest adding: blockade and invade. The world should not tolerate a violent, bigoted ethnostate whose organizing function is displacing, torturing, and killing people for real estate.

Be aware that if your city cancels its contract with flock, that doesn’t mean the cameras cease operating. It just means that your city cops probably don’t have direct access to the data. As long as they are physically installed, the cameras are still tracking you and violating your rights.

Over-emphasizing metrics about employee submission and control is another clear sign of the decay of social order under capitalism. This is a society whose organizing functions have no direct concern for people’s wellbeing. These employers deserve every scrap of contempt they foster.

At some point, local communities need to start addressing the overreach of this federal government. These are not national elections, they are state elections and the feds have no authority or role in them. trump’s thugs should be ridiculed, doxed, physically confronted, and driven out by local and state authorities.That means cops. That means governors deploying the national guard.

Of course none of that will ever happen because cops generally don’t actually give a fuck about their community or laws, and governors and the national guard are mostly showboating pussies.

BTW, it’s not only the murder of civilians that makes the US military so evil. It’s also the sheer scope of brutality, in terms of size and time that the US has perpetrated with not only direct military action, but also proxy military actions, and economic and civil violence that is facilitated by the threat of military action.

I stopped having sympathy for service people and their families after enough time passed for them to realize how fucked the leadership is (and the US culture that fuels it), and to have at least not reenlisted. At this point my attitude is that every casualty is tragic, but y’all actively deserve it.

My family is friends with another family who have kids of similar age. All three of their kids have enlisted and/or reenlisted during all of this. So far, I have avoided communicating my opinion to them, but if circumstances force the issue, I’ve already decided that I’m going to be honest with them about my attitude.
