2·2 months agoI am pretty sure USA stuff happens in a parallel timeline. The dankest timeline or something, maybe the darkest, I dunno. I think the timeline broke around Georg Bush’s infamous ranch speech: “What do we know about these facts” etc.

6·2 months agoHow is this world news?
Based on this thread I think I will stay my horses. No fun in that kind worry for what would have been a once in a life time experience.
Also I find it interesting I get 7 downvotes for answering OP in good faith. Lemmy is not Reddit and I am happy for it, but there are a lot of trenches here
Some of us are just tired of western people not wanting to get a little nuance about none western countries. And the instance you admit that ofcourse no place is perfect you get hit with. “See x is bad, communism can’t work in reality.” It is tiresome and eventually I end up defaulting to standard answers or blocking people if they are rude.
On top of that I do think it is amazing how for instance India, China and Vietnam has improved the lives of billions, but every single time it hit western news it is followed by “but at what price”.
And finally I have realized that things are not always as they seem and the propaganda machine makes it hard to discern the reality of many things. This goes for everything. I have no clue if it actually is dangerous to go USA or it just seem that way.
Tænk hvis der var en eller anden form for statslig instans, hvis formål var at sikre vital kommunikation, fordi landes befolkning og magthavere vidste at uden infrastruktur var der ikke noget samfund.
Could be worse. Could be a gas or helium balloon

2·2 months agoWe are using Fate. It has its problems, but we found it good for including narrative elements, but still keeping it somewhat traditional. The game itself and the story is developing well and the drama between the characters is harrowing because of the dark backdrop of a hopeless civil war on top of the 40k setting. We are using a lot of narrative combat and it really works as well. Besides the indie systems, we draw a lot of inspiration from the nordic roleplaying tradition. It is not as serious as those games tend to be, but borrowing the elements we like enhances the drama of the game.
All in all it is a good way to play with some serious topics, but keeping in a sci-fi settings makes it possible to keep a distance to it. And we have a lot good discussions about the game outside game. Besides that roleplaying is the most immersive and collective form of entertainment I know. This campaign is a weekly thing and gives it a sort of TV-series feel, but I actually kind a like that and it is a good way to meet up with people and relax together.
I do have my eyes on both Powered by the Apocalypse and Forged in the Dark, if I am going to make another campaign though. There will come a new version of Apocalypse World soon(ish) and Band of Blades seems absolutely brilliant for dark fantasy military stuff, besides being an excellent game on its own.

I think I will check out The Summer Hikaru died, it looks nice.
I was discussing with the crowd at Memes of Production and try asking them about Lenin and you will find them quite unforgiving.
tl;dr Lenin was a lib, debating on the internet is pointless :D
I do however tend to agree with you. I believe it is because his imperialism theory actually stems from Hobson, Lenin added economic method, crunched the numbers and came to somewhat positive conclusion that capitalism is a dying vampire, that cannot sustain itself because of socialized capital. If are a liberal or even have an interest in political economy Lenin can be seen not as an ideological figure, but as an political economist. I am pretty sure Keynes looked at Lenin before writing Consequences. And Keynes is social conservative.
I haven’t read Stalin except the usual quotes and fragments, but yes him and the Koreans really seems to part the waters. And understandable too. If you don’t have a historical context for Korea both North and South seems quite absurd and people don’t have a historical context.
I should stop myself. I can’t seem to avoid making walls of text. Anyways. Watching Korea from an IP/realist point off view the country has done the absolutely best it could with it got. But seen in glimpses through westernized and sensationalized journalism a lot of stuff is both absurd and outrageous.
My point being that even people whom are quite political are not immune to (imperialistic) propaganda, myself included. Especially on the scales being rolled out at the moment. And on the same note I find myself glossing over some of the criticism of China and India, instead of acknowledging the very real problems those countries have. Because if I try to put but a drop of nuance into a debate every one forget the pointlessness of trying to win a debate on the internet and uses it as an opening to show exactly how evil those opposing imperialism are O.o
Sorry for the rant.
