They legally cannot do that and have to pay market rate. And I can tell from personal experience that they are not giving lower offers to immigrants for jobs that qualify for H1B visas. Often the hiring companies end up paying a little more because there might be consulting companies in the middle that take a cut of the immigrant salaries. The consulting companies exist because they simplify hiring for employers and create more consistent employment for immigrants as their visa is generally tied to the employer. So the consulting company becomes a consistent employer across different projects at different companies. And for the actual hiring companies it creates a simpler workflow where they just tell the consulting company who they need and consulting company provides employees regardless of immigration status
It’s not exactly what you’re saying but the current system does make it more expensive to hire a visa holder because they have to have entire hiring and legal teams to ensure compliance and stuff.
Probably because parks and museums usually just close whenever this happens, so they’re not working without pay. They’re just on an indefinite suspension
I think the joke is if there were more autistic people in charge of those things, the accidents wouldn’t happen
I thinks that’s one of those state’s rights things where federal government can’t just tell a town how to zone it’s own land unless they’re taking it away from the town like for a national Park or something.
It is most likely this. OP is one of the unfortunate people that just cannot use marijuana safely due to his biology. If you have cannabinoid hyperemesis, best to stay away from weed because the constant nausea/vomiting can lead to unintentional weight loss and a lot of other physical problems that are no fun.
I’m addition to convenience Amazon has just killed off a lot of retail options. The only competitor left with brick and mortar is Walmart and somewhat best buy for electronics. Very hard to find those small specialty stores nowadays for little random things unless you live in a big metropolitan area. Even stores like Walmart now will have the same products by a million different brands instead of having an actual variety of products.
There’s no way humans kill 100 million sharks a year. How many sharks are there?
The guy who posted the screenshot has poor critical problem solving ability
Sure, but the difference was he could’ve been charged for murder if, let’s say, the person he ordered to be killed was a political opponent and not a clear threat to the nation. And Congress or judges would’ve had some power to make that call before, whereas they don’t really seem to have that power anymore.
Also, strictly speaking in terms of what the founders wanted - they did not want the president to have those kinds of powers. Most of these things were really brought in during FDR’s tenure during WWII where he took a lot of power for the executive branch. And it’s a trend that’s been continuing since.
Not really. The founders wanted a 3 pronged, balanced government with each branch checking the others’ power. Now the legislative essentially can’t do anything against the executive, and neither can the judicial unless SCOTUS changes its mind.
They specifically didn’t want another king
If you have 1 of 1 bag of apples, you have 1 bag (1x1=1).
If you have 2 of 1 bag of apples, you have 2 bags (2x1=2).
If you have 3 of 1 bag of apples, you have 3 bags (3x1=3).
And so on…
The pain is a lesser problem than getting chronic kidney infections. If you know the stones are the cause, you need to see a urologist to figure out a solution. Recurring inflammation from the stones and infections can cause more and more problems as you age, and may potentially affect your renal function down the line.
Long before Bernie there was Al Gore in 2000 who lost because of a supreme court decision saying the majority vote did not matter in the US (not really, but it did decide the election and stop the Florida recounts). Not only changed the narrative on climate change for the future, but also about what matters for federal elections.
Yeah I agree with you. If they had used her actual voice without permission, that’s one thing. But they hired a voice actor who sounded like what they wanted their voice model to sound like. Sam Altman tweeted “her” on May 13 2024, which I guess people are using to say he ripped off SJ, but I don’t see how. 1) being inspired by other creative works, and referencing them in your own work is neither stealing nor illegal, and 2) if anything he was inspired by the AI character in the movie, not SJ herself, i.e. the inspiration was from the writer/director/audio engineers in conjunction with SJ’s performance. You getting downvoted here is just the Internet hive mind doing its thing rather than anyone having any actual argument for why this is wrong.
Yeah it takes screenshots periodically and all the storage and analysis is done on your local device, which is why it requires the newer CPUs with NPUs from Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm. There’s a setting to turn the whole feature off, and you can also choose to turn it off for only certain applications, etc. Microsoft seems to be making an effort to encourage chip manufacturers to make better NPUs so that their AI features can run as locally as possible. That’s likely why their new surface devices will be using the snapdragon x elite processors because they’re the only ones that have NPUs with enough TOPS to run all the AI features Microsoft wants on device, instead of having to send the data for processing to a Microsoft server. I think beyond trying to quell privacy concerns, it would be a huge cost for Microsoft if they had to have enough compute available to run all these AI tasks for users for free. I’m sure there’s still some way they are logging pieces of info here and there, but they’ll have to include some way to make sure the OS is secure enough for business operations that are handling secure information.
People are acting as if auto saving, web history, reopen last used windows, etc aren’t already features on all modern apps and OSes. If the claim about everything staying on device is true then this is no different.
The summation starts at n=0 and goes up to n=inf. I think that’s pretty standard
Biden was really the only one that ran on a campaign of “I’m not Trump”. Both Harris and Clinton had independent platforms that had nothing to do with saying they are not Trump. They weren’t coming into the mess Trump had made so their policies didn’t have to focus on reversing what he had done (which is essentially all Biden ran on and did). I don’t think this argument is that strong because the 2 candidates that lost actually had a fair bit of reform in their platforms with much more fleshed out plans and details than anything Trump was offering to do.
