No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do the people claiming the X2 causes brain bleeds explain why every other rollercoaster isn't also causing fatal brain bleeds?English
2·2 days agoOther factors might include the design of the car (how it distributes the force, for instance), the rails (friction, tolerances, etc.), or the environment (decorations around the roller coaster, lighting effects, sound, etc.)

7·2 days agoAs it turns out, there’s a lot more factors towards the safety of a rolls coaster asides from peak force. Mainly, you have swift changes in force due to rapid changes in speed or direction. A gradual increase in force is safer than a quick burst!

2·2 days agoNo, the design is not the same. The shape is different and, more importantly, the angle is also different!
Yes, I did mention alternative software for Logitech mice! Solaar looks awesome if you have a Logitech mouse. The mouse I mentioned can also switch between 3 devices, I think that’s a pretty common feature on most mice nowadays.
Definitely more of a hassle to replace the battery, but good to see it’s somewhat replaceable at least. AA batteries are a lot easier to replace though, you don’t need to pry out the mouse feet and it’s much quicker to swap it out when it runs out!
Rubber will wear out faster than a normal plastic finish, but if it has lasted for your hands that’s good too! I’ve just heard lots of people, particularly in humid climates, where the rubber disintegrates quickly. I’m from HK so humidity is a big issue, so this mouse isn’t a good option for me (if you live somewhere drier, it could be neat!)
And again, the one I have is really neat too with the fun colours (!!!) and magnetic grip thingy. The shape is more comfortable for me too, but hey our hands are all different

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What are we calling the Middle East these days and why? West Asia???English
3·2 days agoWell yeah, the Russians teach just one continent, Eurasia. A few other places do that too I think, mostly those who were influenced by the Russians in the past (i.e. were part of the Russian Empire and/or the USSR’s sphere of influence)
And I know many Latin American countries teach a unified continent of America rather than splitting it North and South.
Egpyt does not combine Asia and Africa despite having the Sinai peninsula in Asia (which is only split by a manmade canal)
Personally, I’m a fan of defining continents geologically, since it gets rid of all the politics

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What are we calling the Middle East these days and why? West Asia???English
13·1 day agoMiddle East and West Asia are both terms that can be used kind of interchangeably, it just depends on the context. And yes, Europe is a glorified peninsula of the continent of “Eurasia”. Interestingly, Russia and a few other countries that straddle the boundary of Europe and Asia teach it as one continent.
In my opinion, the idea of “continents” is ambiguous if we define it as no sea in between, Afro-Eurasia is a monster that isn’t helpful to categorise the world. There’s good videos on the topic by CGP Grey and Map Men (previously Jay Foreman), you should go look at that I think!
I would rather divide the world based on the geological definition of continents, about the major tectonic plates! But even that can be difficult since what constitutes as a “major” tectonic plate? It’s still better in my opinion, since it’s something that can be discussed by geologists rather than politicians.
According to Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tectonic_plates
Under this definition, the continents are (if we only consider major plates as defined by Wikipedia):
- Eurasia
- Africa
- North America
- South America
- Australia
- Antarctica
- Pacific (mostly ocean)
if we include the some of the larger minor plates (I feel like we should):
- Carribean
- Arabia
- India (subcontinent has levelled up!)
- Somali
- Nazca (again, mostly ocean)
- Philippines (another ocean one)
There are lots of smaller ones but those are mostly ocean too
I think it would be neat if the world was divided to have India, Arabia, the Carribean, and Eastern Africa to have the Europe sort of treatment! India alone has more people than the whole of Europe combined (I think you could throw North America too and the Indian region, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc., will still be more populous!)

2·2 days agoVertical mice aren’t a Logitech trademark. The shape is noticeable different from the MX Vertical, it has the cool wrist rest magnetic thing, and the angle it sits is different. The colours are a lot nicer than the graphite black of the MX Vertical. Also, the MX Vertical (at least the current revision) does not use replaceable batteries.
Logitech Options doesn’t support Linux, so no, it’s not “well supported on everything”, though there are community made alternatives that seem really neat! I imagine the mouse itself does, but nearly all mice should work on Linux so Logitech is not unique in this
The MX Vertical is over $100, over five times the price of this cheap little guy, so I don’t think the price is worth it, especially since this cheap one has fun colours + a more comfortable shape for me (YOUR HANDS MAY VARY)

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Toshiba to double HDD production capacity amid devastating shortages — 65TB, 100TB drives on the roadmapEnglish
7·2 days agoLarger storage is good for videos (think Blu-rays, 4K videos are very big! Security camera feeds could also take up lots of space), and you might also want to host for multiple users (for family, friends, or a business)
But yes, _100_TB is a lot. 8-24TB (before memory became super expensive) was reasonable for most consumers, usually in a RAID configuration for redundancy. Multiple smaller drives are more reliable and modular than a single big one!

4·3 days agoUsing replaceable AA batteries is a good start I think! And it doesn’t feel cheap, the build quality is good

I think the tectonic plates have helped to make natural boundaries that create such difference in culture, in particular the Indian region (incl. Pakistan, Bangladesh) is vastly different from the other side of the Himalayas, of course still linked, but culture is very different!
Same goes with the Carribean, Arabia, etc.
