Oh. I thought the lawsuit was gonna be because it wasn’t hot enough. Some of these places serve spaghetti sauce as salsa. Which is fine. Adapting to local preferences and stuff.

you call them or just show up. It’s like the 2000s out here.
TIL: I’m living in the 2000s and didn’t realize it. 😅
Yeah, this is what I do. Sometimes I show up and the place is closed. I wasted 30 minutes driving there. It’s annoying. But, not so annoying that I want to use FB. (For me personally. I understand people have different tolerances.)
I’m older, I guess, this is just what we did when we were growing up.

Yeah, I guess you’re right actually. You pay money and get more features. I tend to think of subscriptions for Open Source more as donations, but Fluxer is a little different.
But, yeah, like someone else said, you can self-host and not pay anything and get access to everything. Did I mention it’s fully Open Source without a CLA?!

When I was driving in Mexico, I learned this is possible! They’re very consistent with this.
California (not sure about other US states) on the other hand … people will purposely drive in the left lane, block traffic, and then get mad at you when you pass them on the right.

Growing up in a small town, this is exactly what we did. I was absolutely shocked to learn that people ride bikes ON THE ROAD! Right next to the big metal death machines!! 😱
I see why bikes on the road make sense for high density areas… but it sure seems weird in smaller towns.

Real question, can you describe this experience more? How do businesses get locked behind Facebook?

I’m glad I deleted my accounts years ago. I don’t have loss aversion from leaving them. I don’t know what I’m missing, I guess, and that’s good.

Did you guys also consider Fluxer? I tried Stoat first, but the main instance is really slow and there are some video features disabled due to high cost. Which is totally fair.
Fluxer seems to have more features and their main instance is a lot snappier. They’re also accepting donations via Plutonium. Which seems to be helping with the server costs.
Both are AGPLv3, with Fluxer recently saying they’re gonna remove their CLA so that it’s true Open Source.

Last I heard, Stoat isn’t planning federation.
Fluxer IS planning federation. https://blog.fluxer.app/roadmap-2026/
Honestly, yeah, I’d do the same. After several past jobs required Linux, even downgrading to a Mac feels pretty bad. Can’t imagine Macroslop Wangblows.
Actually, one thing I want to do is switch from services being on a subdomain to services being on a path.
immich.myserver.com -> myserver.com/immich
jellyfin.myserver.com -> myserver.com/jellyfin
I’m getting tired of having to update DNS records every time I want to add a new service.
I guess the tricky part will be making sure the services support this kind of routing…
God I hate those stupid magic links. They’re WAAAAYYY slower than just using my password manager.
AND they kinda contribute to locking you into Big Tech. I sometimes have problems with those stupid links because I don’t have a Gmail account. Somewhere along the stupid chain there’s probably some stupid check that delays or blackholes emails to non-big-tech domains.
Uhh… Sure, I’ll try the super salad…

God yes. I don’t even care which side of DST we land on. As long as we stop changing the damn clock.
Time to switch to Plan9!

I don’t want to sync files at all. I want files to only be on the server, accessible via web interface. Like Google Drive.

Yeah, that’s what I was doing before when it was just me. But, my wife isn’t gonna wanna mount an SSHFS. It needs to work like Google Drive, meaning web interface.

I’m not giving Google anymore money. I’m actively going to vote for their competitor, Motorola+GrapheneOS.
(Not buying used Pixel.)
Because I’m an idiot. 🤦 Thanks!
