After a few years of corporate framework stacks, I’m back to writing plain HTML/JS/CSS, and wow, what a joyful float down a river that is

Even with no transpiler or minification, bespoke HTML is extremely efficient and pleasant to use. I write little script tags with query selectors where I need them, they get efficiently loaded on the pages that use them

I use Hugo to do imports / classic server side rendering, and it’s stupid fast and efficient. I can compile 500 pages in 0.5s on a dualcore machine with 4gb of ram. Resources (like images) can be processed, converted into multiple file types and resolutions and then automatically cached. It feels so zen

Well im kinda opposed to the supreme court as a concept, it didn’t even exist early on in American history, but it is what it is. The other laws will have to fall in like or Congress will have to act

Idk overall more jury trials sounds better than judges just getting to decide. I know it’s less efficient and longer, but seems to increase the chances of decisions being made with some humanity, rather than political bias in terms of appointments

Cambridge dictionary for “id”:

abbreviation for identification: any official card or document with your name and photograph or other information on it that you use to prove who you are:

Do you have any ID? A driver’s license or check card will do.

My question is different: what kinda psycho abbreviates “id” as I.D.? And then followup, who collapses the period into it to make “I.D?”

Id is identification, that’s one word. This isn’t an acronym. So arguably if anything if would be abbreviated with an apostrophe or maaaybe a single period at the end. Anyway English is weird

Well, US is doing exactly this too. It doesn’t appear so incoherent - from a perspective of achieving objectives while attempting to reduce casualties. (And making a ton of money in the process)

I don’t agree, in the experience of my friend circle, if you don’t release for a while:

• you start having wet dreams
• prostate harm - increased rates of prostate cancer in multiple studies - and my friend developed pelvic floor issues
• the “mental harm” is having to walk around horny all the time, constantly thinking of sex, and affecting your interactions
• even celibate people mostly masturbate, that’s not what it means. Including many confessions from priests

Nope, still smoothbrain, “consciousness” is not defined at all. It’s just a word that nobody actually understands, outside of something like “he was knocked unconscious” — the Philosophy of Mind is a huge circle jerk where scholars have spent decades publishing papers yelling at each other as they try to figure out if consciousness exists at all, is part of a soul given to us by God, is an emergent property of complexity, or just plain stupid. You can’t prove you yourself are conscious, let alone anything else. Or maybe the whole universe is conscious because it’s one big system. Oh well, at least the professors get jobs

That’s so fucking funny, dude really hates Google. XScreenSaver was released in 1992 fyi, and was once considered the pride and joy of Linux, being way cooler than other OS screensavers, and had a big community of ppl trying to make new trippy ones

No but you see, there’s no reason a newer osx can’t run on their older hardware most of the time. You can install new windows on an old laptop if it has the specs. It’s not like they lost the drivers or whatever. It’s a choice they made, cutting off users from security updates & newer apps & leaving them with a vulnerable device

Really annoys me that Apple has a policy of no more updates after 7 years (or when they change the CPU architecture enough) — that’s hardcore planned obsolescence & I think it made their hardware quality worse over time (in addition to being unrepairable)

Super lame. While I’m ranting, their trade in program is a scam that doesn’t pay out almost ever. And otherwise they will “recycle it for free” making money Im sure

So yeah I’m pretty sure the era of MacBook superiority is over & imma buy a considerably higher spec System 76 laptop instead which comes with a repair bible for pretty much every scenario and is upgradeable

Generally, us presidents fall into the do whatever they want, “move fast and break shit” philosophy. And as the world’s arms dealers, the USA has every reason to be involved in every conflict. That’s our greatest national industry

What Bartsbigbugbag meant to say is “the US has been actively inching closer to China for decades and has completed a full military base / trade wall that spans across the entire set of islands - Japan, Taiwan, Philippines - outlining the entire east / south China seas and reducing China’s economic/military power”

China has ample reason to be pissed at this. It’s actually a very impressive contain if you look at the positions of our military bases and trade routes. But it’s also just normal Risk-style territory control that all superpowers play with. Nobody is really the bad guy here, and the island countries like their situation - like Japan, historic enemy of China - gets to enjoy doing nothing while America basically runs their entire military for them
