Ok, fair enough.
I’m not from the US so my understanding of your system is surface level.
Could he give himself the power to do this?

What is to stop Biden from cancelling the upcoming election?
Being now his powers are effectively unchecked, couldn’t he just call off the election as an official act. Rather than stupid shit like ordering assassination or deploying the military, just say “I’m cancelling the election until such time this ruling is overturned and a constitutional amendment is enacted that states that the president is not immune from criminal prosecution”
I get that impression from the article
This story reminds my a a 80’s saying;
“Your mouth is writing checks that your ass can’t cash”
This lady doesn’t know when she is beat.
Yep, if you are running any type of Linux python is already installed.
I always have a path in my python files to allow for direct running rather than calling python first. This only works on Linux.
If you put
!/usr/bin/env python3
as the very first line, you can make the file executable and it will just run
otherwise you will have to call python first, e.g.
python yourFile.py
You could do this with python and a couple of libraries. This is just an example, but you could import the data from a DB or use a CSV file.
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import numpy as np
# Pie chart data
labels = ['Category A', 'Category B', 'Category C', 'Category D', 'Category E']
sizes = [30, 25, 20, 15, 10]
colors = ['#ff9999','#66b3ff','#99ff99','#ffcc99','#c2c2f0']
# Pie chart
plt.figure(figsize=(8, 8))
plt.pie(sizes, labels=labels, colors=colors, autopct='%1.1f%%', startangle=140)
plt.title('Sample Pie Chart')
plt.axis('equal') # Equal aspect ratio ensures that pie is drawn as a circle.
plt.show()
# Histogram data
data = np.random.normal(0, 1, 1000) # Generate 1000 random data points with a normal distribution
# Histogram
plt.figure(figsize=(10, 6))
plt.hist(data, bins=30, color='#66b3ff', edgecolor='black')
plt.title('Sample Histogram')
plt.xlabel('Value')
plt.ylabel('Frequency')
plt.show()
The guy seems fine after treatment… Not a great experience though.
The cynic in me says, this was more about the pretending to be a police officer, rather than the scams…
Don’t forget the 15 minutes of inexplicably staring out the window, when you sent them to put something warm on.
There are a few parts that I found interesting
Tanya Lees from the group Kāpiti CALM (Calm Alarming Law Madness) said people were worried insurance companies would use the report as an excuse to refuse to cover their homes.
Sorry Tanya, the insurance companies don’t need a publicly funded report. They are already consulting with (the same) experts, they will set their rates as they see fit.
Also from Tanya
There are a lot of people, a lot of experts, who do not agree with this,
Who are these experts? People yes, because they have an emotional and financial investment, but experts…not very likely.
This is a strange way to think
Salima Padamsey from Coastal Ratepayers United said the panel’s report should be taken as an advisory - nothing more.
"Council never vested the advisory committee with any statutory authority under the Resource Management Act.
"The committee’s mandate did not encompass providing expert perspectives on policy matters.
When has an advisory committee ever been vested with powers, the clue is in the name…they are to advise. That last bit about “providing expert perspective” is so strange. One would hope that; when spending public money; only expert opinion would be sought, what is the other option? Just some random off the street?
Well the front is not supposed to fall off.
Now imagine they’ve got stocky muscles, spikes, and they want to kill you.
You mean like a pissed off 3yo when you are trying to trim their finger nails.
Well played

This is not law.
This is a mandatory course directed from the REAA:
In 2023 the Real Estate Agents Authority directed all real estate agents to undertake a course called Te Kākano - which was designed in partnership with Whakatāne-based tertiary institute Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi.
To play devil’s advocate here.
I find these type of courses less than useless, for those already bigoted all they do is increase resentment. For those that are inclined to listen the the message that is trying to be conveyed…they are almost certainly already thinking about others in a constructive manner.
Having this being promoted and encouraged, but voluntary would work better.
In saying the above, this person is clearly an idiot, sitting through a 90 minute course and having something to complain to your friends about later, has to be preferable to jeopardizing your license for 5 years. Also as soon as I saw “woke madness” I knew this wasn’t about logic and thoughtful argument.
A good test in these situations is to substitute the thing for a similar thing. If we substitute the “Te Triti” training course with, “The Koran”, “The Bible” or even “the Chinese migrant world view”. Does the feeling of “rightness” change, it does for me.
Changing the attitude toward Maori and Te Triti is the work of generations, hell we spent generations instilling the shitty culture we have now. There are some usually older people (though not exclusively) who will never change their backward views.
The cynic in me also says, what is the point of these types of courses, they have little relevance to the industry. Are there cultural sensitivity courses for the Indian world view? if you are constantly working in those communities you may want to seek out that info to better understand your customer.
It is a marathon not a sprint, every step counts. Just because this isn’t already perfect doesn’t mean that it is unimportant.
I know that The Dunning-Kruger effect has been disproven; but fuck a “good understanding” means what exactly? The people I work with (are they representative of the population? Maybe…) have trouble using excel well, most people have no idea how their computer works or why it works. Just because you can use something does not mean you understand it.
