Yeah, i have been around people who like sports all my life and this is the go-to. Let’s them talk about the game, and gets me up to speed of a game I honestly don’t really care about, but that it’s nice that gets people excited about.

I think trig functions and identities have been known since Euclid, but idk if the knowledge was widespread to tailors/seamstresses and other craftspeople.

Some teams ultras are commies tho, and they are the first to step into the field to bash fash skulls, so who’s to say if football is good or bad.

This is still a thing in Mexico, and to a certain extent in many Mediterranean countries in Europe. In Mexico, the more you drink, the more/better food you get. And in the Mediterranean countries you always get some snacks like olives or potato chips, plus some bread or cheese.

Not saying it’s the case for this conversation, plenty of people willing to explain and teach, but sometimes someone will ask you to not use a term, and refuse to explain because it is emotionally exhausting to explain and relive your trauma to people who don’t understand why hearing people say something hurts you.

If you ever find yourself in this situation, try to exercise some empathy and just don’t use the word, instead of insisting on understanding why you can’t use it.

I say this because I’ve seen it happen in front of me irl and it’s pretty shit. Also online it can be interpreted as sealioning, which yknow, not great.

I like bullshit Jobs because it’s a very lib-friendly way (it even has the quirky airport book cover and all) to introduce people to labor issues and the contradictions of late capitalism without the byzantine or inflammatory language we love in our more serious theory. That being said, I can’t bring myself to take it seriously, or as seriously as Graeber’s other work.
