Yes, but there were three gotchas that make it difficult to use for our purposes - one is that you have to have your phone on and connected if you want to use the same account on another device. Given I use my phone as much like a dumb phone as possible and turn data off when I don’t need it (aka most of the time) it’s impractical to use. We kinda got around this by having different accounts for different devices bit it left you guessing which account to contact someone on because you don’t know if they’re on their phone, laptop, PC, etc.
It uses a a chunk of battery and the devs seem completely disinterested in UnifiedPush.
A lesser but helpful feature that’s lacking is web chat. It’s a lot easier to get family and friends sold on alternate chat clients if they can try it out using a web browser they already have instead of installing yet another app.
None of this is about online safety. It’s not age verification, it’s ID verification.

More the people behind it than the distro, but CachyOS. Aside from the performance improvements only being marginal, I was happy with the convenience after a decade of using Vanilla Arch. It was the first distro ever to tempt me away in that decade. I was really, really disappointed by the response to the age verification bs. The mods did a terrible job with discussion on the forums and the devs never made a formal response. The upside is I learned more about Systemd and now happily using Artix. So at least some good came out of my disappointment.
Have you considered going DEless? Its been a while since I did but back then I was able to get a modern looking system with Openbox (amongst others but thats what I settled on). I dont know what the state of DEless windows managers are these days but I’ve seen some very nice looking setups. Might be something to consider?

I repeatedly ask family not to share photos of us on social media. I can’t even get them yo stick to that let alone not storing photos on their phone which naturally gets cloud stored and therefore data mined.
I just had a kids activity thing where the company doing the activity put a line in the SAFETY waiver giving them permission to post photos on social media. So you not only waive your kids safety but also their privacy ffs.
MX on a laptop. It just works™. I have Artix (Dinit) on my PC. Also happy as a clam with that. My only regret is not switching sooner.
