  • Finishing up Metaphor Re:Fantazio this week. I’m in the last few days of the game and have loved most of what I’ve seen. This will likely be top of my Persona series games I’ve played, just edging out P4. It might be in my top games of all time with how much I’ve enjoyed it. My only real issues with it are

    Metaphor Re:Fantazio spoilers

the fact that everything seems to be fellating “enlightened centrism.” My biggest issue being with Catherina’s story where she’s out to combat racism and ultimately does nothing because “violence bad.” Also, “stealing bad” which was just wealth re-appropriation. The other is the introduction of Eupha. Nothing about that felt good since it was essentially just white settlers telling others how to live their lives and forcing their moral compass on others. The game also seems to try to put all the extremes of modern political landscapes into this. You can tell it’s very much written by a centrist point of view.

Beyond that, gameplay’s great, other parts of the story are fantastic, and I look forward to another fantasy Persona game in the future. I much prefer this over contemporary story offerings. This might actually get a second playthrough given time, which says something of a triple-digit hour game.

  • I remember bashing my head against the wall trying to beat the game on Inferno. Belial was an actual nightmare that you absolutely could not get hit on to even think about killing. Attempts would take upwards of 10 minutes. Funny enough the game really got easier after that and finishing up through Act 4 took a fraction of the time Act 2 took (though Diablo was fairly difficult too).

They seriously tuned literally everything at launch to maximize the profits from the RMAH and then toss it aside at a later time in a show of “good will.” It was so blatant even after a couple of nerfs that that was what they were aiming for. Money sucking fucks.

Later on in its existence it became a much more fun game. They did a great job of turning it around years later. Late D3 remains one of my favorite ARPG experiences just because you actually felt megapowerful.

  • FF7 Remake is easily one of my favorite games of all-time. Probably in the top 10 no problem. It had great story, excellent gameplay, and wonderful graphics. I’ve played through it roughly 3 or 4 times since it released. I highly recommend it to people whose interests might even closely align with what the game has to offer.

FF7 Rebirth though? I’m much less fond of it. Way too much open world bloat in that one. I’ve yet to finish it because the place that reminds me of Thousand Needles is just fucking awful and I can’t push past that area.
