  • Semantics, but they have always had power in our government. They built and designed it to serve their interests. The state fundamentally exists to maintain ruling class hierarchy and enforce laws which govern our systems of ownership. The ruling class uses the media to keep the people brainwashed into thinking the system exists to “protect them” and “maintain order”. The problem is intersectional.

But you are right, participation is a choice. We can stop and organize among ourselves to create a new society out from under the boot of authoritarian oppression. So, for people to not participate, we must create alternatives for them to choose from to meet the need they are trying to fill and make it as convenient and available for people as possible to encourage them to make the jump.

  • You need to read more about the anarchist aspects that Graeber and LeGuin advocate. Conflict in inevitable with the ruling powers that create these circumstances which dictate how society at large behaves but conflict doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

What you’re talking about is in fact created by humans. We create the conditions that incentivizes that behavior. He goes over the mechanisms behind it in his books “Debt” and “Dawn of Everything”. Humanity doesn’t just default to hierarchy.

It is entirely possible to build new and then enforce our autonomy from the current ruling class. We know it is possible. We have done it before and we can do it again.
