The hallucinations are real. I don’t use them for longer stuff, I demand admin time for anything that’s longer than a paragraph. But for quick office politics type stuff that I don’t really care about but also need to not get ground under and also worry about coming off as blunt I’m kinda grateful to have it.

I have noticed that damn near every email I get that’s longer than a paragraph seems to come from copilot though.

Tbh I’m starting to fantasize about switching to a trade. Front line office work is for the birds.

Copilot is okay at being a copy editor for my work emails. I struggle with tone so its nice to have a built in thingy that strips my personality out of my emails. Specifically my emails to my supervisor.

For example, “hi supervisor, I checked and that email was sent an hour ahead of the deadline from the email you sent me on date x and I was waiting on access to y. What the hell are you ccing your bosses on this for,” turns into “something something per your previous email something, if I misunderstood something something, thank you for your guidance.”

In a perfect world I would have time to write all my own emails but my job is very… Communication heavy, let’s say, and I personally have a lot of work to do directly with clients that can’t simply be put off.

Tbf they’re the only ones using the agentic features, and they’re definitely the only ones using frontier models for it. That shit gets expensive fast.

The maintainer of the project probably won’t see it here, but that repo does appear to be fairly active, they’ve got thousands of merged PRs. If you contribute a better logo they might replace the AI one.

Abuse is a pattern. No parent is perfect. Abuse is about power and control, and as you noted this specific action is part of a larger abusive system. So absent that larger system of abuse, being a blabbermouth is a normal ass character flaw. Stop trying to diagnose people on the internet.

My problem with ACC is that it makes traffic worse. A competent driver can look 500 feet up the road and think “oh, brake lights, I can literally just coast down and we’ll be going the same speed when they start moving again.” But ACC only looks at the car in front of you, so you get this constant accelerate and brake cycle that ripples backwards. Like on open road its fine, as long as you keep the following distance at a reasonable level, but I swear every asshole with a late model SUV keeps theirs set on tailgate mode, and it means any slowdown turns into stop and go

Edit: also cc is hella inefficient and will chew up a good 10% of your fuel economy on hilly terrain. If you set and forget it’s basically an “I would like to pay more money to the oil company please” button

I had never thought about it but me too. My meals almost always look like this:

1. Canned or precooked protein
2. Boiled Grain
3. microwave steamed vegetable
4. Canned beans
5. Seasoning
6. Like 10ml of a fat

This sounds nasty when you genericize it but tonight I had mac and cheese with rotisserie chicken and broccoli. If I threw some sizzle words in there you’d think it was fancy.

Honest question, where does the money for voucher programs come from?

What they are describing is a natural reduction in population that occurs automatically when countries become more economically developed. Trying to steer this is gonna have downstream impacts. You are not going to roll out these reforms everywhere all at once, so where are you going to start? Because if democracy and a global economy are still going to exist in 2200, relative population sizes matter. If, say, India develops their rural regions, does a 180 on feminism, and halves their population in the process, but Pakistan doesn’t, that’s going to have geopolitical ramifications, and not good ones. This kind of thinking scares me, no matter what the framing is. People are good, and we can have more of them, and we should have more of them. We just need to be smarter about how we use our resources.

You cannot build a policy in such a way that population halving is distributed equitably unless you run a global forced sterilization lottery. Which has its own ethical problems. Maybe we could, idk, all agree to eat beef twice a month instead of every day and stop throwing shit fits over renewables and nuclear before economics and water scarcity makes fossil fuel plants impossible to support. Just a thought.

I actually kind of like it. Nobody ever shut up about how old biden was even though his admin did all the work. Valve is legendary for being a good employer. I remember hearing about an employee who tried to tender a resignation when he was diagnosed with something chronic and debilitating. Can’t remember what. Anyway, point is, he decided he couldnt do his job, tried to resign, Newell refused to accept it and told him “your job at Valve is to get better. Come back when you’re better.” So the employee kept his pay, his benefits, all of it. And this was right around the release of HL2, so Valve was not yet the monopoly market maker it is today. Gabe Newell is a billionaire. He may or may not be a good person. But he is a forward thinker and a good boss.
