This has been on my todo list since the blender 4.0 donut tutorial came out like a year ago. It’s been really fun and I’m watching it an hour at a time haha (it’s like 5 hours long)
Day 2 and I have sprinkles.
I have begun making the donut in blender.
Tagging @[email protected] as the picture didn’t federate to pixelfed
The keyboard is coming along nicely and improving the ergonomics of your setup can definitely be a hobby. I’m sure you’ll have a better typing experience in no time.
Gamedev is really cool and I need to get back into it properly! Your joy with it made me install godot and add learning how to use it on my TODOs. Hopefully the next hyperfocus I can reason my brain into following a tutorial for it.
Those banana peels you posted look really cool! I’ve never thought to cook with them before.
Gardening’s really fun. I miss having a garden and can’t wait to have a front or backyard when I move. For some reason I get lots of cool insects come inside over the year. I keep getting praying mantises flying inside this time of year, with the last time one stealthy laying eggs by the windowsill. Later I had dozens of “ants” on the windows until I noticed they were actually baby mantises!
This is the first weekly thread since I’ve become an admin here. Just wanted to briefly update everyone on things.
There is a veganhomecooks (veganhomecooks.com) Pixelfed instance. It is able to federate images here as posts by mentioning the lemmy community in the body. (i.e. appending @[email protected] to a pixelfed post caption will make a post on the [email protected] community).
Unfortunately, under normal circumstances, comments only federate from lemmy to Pixelfed and not the other way around. I have developed two scripts that I periodically run to resolve the veganhomecooks comments and index them here, but it is a somewhat manual process as the Pixelfed instance doesn’t allow scrapping (you need to be logged in to see the content). Rarely, this fails to work, so almost all the veganhomecooks comments can be seen here on vegantheoryclub. There is an issue with deletions not federating both sides, but it can be manually done if need be.
In my opinion, I think Pixelfed is not really fun to use as it lack even basic features like federating text only posts. I know it’s meant to be for visual media only, but if a mastodon user can follow you and comment on your pictures and federate their own to you then I don’t see the appeal of purposefully not receiving any of their other text posts. Mastodon feels like it can do much, if not all, of what Pixelfed can do, and more. Pleroma, Akkoma, and Misskey having even more functionality and interoperability than mastodon. I just wish it was a configuration option (that worked) to enable text only content, I really fail to see how it would undermine the experience of using Pixelfed or add much in the way of complexity to the project scope.
I’m curious if anyone else has any opinions about Pixelfed yet. I’ve only discovered text posts don’t federate after making an account and using it so my expectations may be out of scope, but I don’t see the appeal of this considering federation is a core part of why it’s used.
o7 I hope this is the right call 😅 but I trust your judgement (I wanted some community consensus on appointing another admin first). I’ll maintain this instance as is for now and will try not to cause too much drama. Also, I think we have admins on either side of the world so that’s probably good for dealing with things in a timely manner.
Edit: We probably should announce there is another instance admin now for transparency, just in case people don’t check this thread and follow along.
I’d be willing to help out with any of the aspects of hosting this instance (finances, sysadmin, moderation) if you (both Hamid and the instance members) would like. This instance, especially recently, has been the place on lemmy I’m the most comfortable being. If it has to go then so be it, but I’d like to see it keep kicking along in the meantime provided you are ok with it :)
Also, need it be said, but death to amerikkka.
I think she deleted her account after a lot of people got upset from her banwaves. This was after we decided to rescind the lemmy world community and hand it over new moderators, but for some reason she kept her account as a mod and stirred up some drama.
Thanks for the question! I used to walk a bunch when I lived in the country (rural). I really miss bush (wilderness) walks and get frustrated walking where I live seeing just seeing concrete, asphalt, grass I’m allergic to, and noisy metal death boxes around. Legitimately, I nearly get run over every time I go out, it’s so frustrating it makes me want to never leave my flat.
Thanks for the questions! It’s always good to be prepared and helping others do so is nice. I’m NC with most of my family, so I spend my resources on helping friends, although I should probably do a better job at that. I think there was a discussion thread about this in the [email protected] community a while ago, so feel free to post any advice you have there :)
Thanks for the question! Audio books and puzzles sounds fun. I find that doing either activity alone is not stimulating enough, but haven’t thought of tying both at the same time.
I have a fleeting special interest in mechanical keyboards that comes up every few months or so. Really interested in these ergonomic keyboards and the flexibility they provide, especially going the DIY route. Currently using a logitech keyboard with proprietary keyswitches that I intend to replace. In fact, the switches now get too excited and register the keypress sometimes more than once or not even at all. Rather than ordering proprietary switches to fix it, I’m waiting for my keyboard special interest to kick into full gear and get a better keyboard that I can truly enjoy :)
Also bendy/floppy people represent. I can’t sleep on one side due to my shoulder cracking and moving more than it should and the pain is starting to creep into keyboard and mouse use if my posture is acting up (it always is lol). Really should invest into an accessible setup before the current one becomes inaccessible and causes me too much pain.
Yep, @[email protected] could you please mark this as NSFW?
On that note, we don’t technically have rules about this on the instance, but we should probably follow something similar to the Hexbear CoC in regards to carnist products needing to be CWed.
I’m really into progressive rock, neo-psychedelia, new wave, and britpop. I generally like lots of subgenres of rock and switch up things a bit from time to time. Sometimes I like to listen to blues, power metal, and classical when I’m in the mood for it.
The last concert I went to was to see Liam Gallagher in December 2019. It ended halfway through Supersonic and everyone started booing when he just stopped talking and left lol. He was going to cop a large fine if he made any noise past 11pm, but there was no communication about this. Before Liam got on stage there was this Scottish dude, Gerry Cinnamon, who plays the guitar like I’ve never seen anyone before and I swear he was going to break it mid song lmao. the arrogance of a human deciding that human life is more important so the cruelty is justified… who are we to play god and place ourselves above all else?
