Take a closer look at a barn owl’s face. The heart- shaped facial disc is made of specialized feathers that help collect and direct sound toward the owl’s ears. Barn owls can use these sounds to help locate prey, even when it is difficult to see. Their facial disc is an important part of how they hunt in low light.
