    Excellent show. Someday I’ll have to read some of the books, but based on their rate of publication and some of the systemic issues that the horses overlook to stay in government service at all,

    namely the way MI6 is constantly trying to murder them or content to let someone else do so,

    I’m guessing they’re pretty pulpy beach reads and that Oldman alone elevates the material.

      I read the first book after watching S1 and the show is pretty much a word for word adaption so I didn’t read anymore.

      I didn’t really like the books that much. You are correct Oldman elevates it as does other member of the cast.

        Agreed there. I shoulda phrased it better. The cast and their interplay really are the best parts, though Oldman chewing scenery and junk food really is the BEST best part and would have made it watchable all on his own. Also, each individual season is usually plotted well enough I can explain why any one particular decision gets made in a moment, but at the macro level it’s really quite silly.

        It’s almost like they came from a competent but formulaic working-author who writes airport thrillers with tight plotting…
