At this time of year?
In this part of the country?
Localised entirely in your kitchen?
Yes, lemmy;
I can’t see anything through these clouds :(
And I have just driven to Queensland… sigh.
How do I do this? I’m in Melbourne atm.
Do I need anything special?!
Non cloud, then get your phone camera and long exposure night shot.
You will see the Hugh in the pic
You need it to not be cloudy, for starters 😆
But even if it’s not cloudy, light pollution can also be an issue, so it might help to head further out of the city (see: https://darksitefinder.com/map/?i=/%234/-37.84/144.94)
Basically, if you can’t see the stars, you can’t see the aurora.
The only equipment that can help you ‘see’ it better would be taking a long exposure with a camera.

According to BOM aurora won’t be visible - https://www.sws.bom.gov.au/Aurora/3/1. On the other hand there was a huge solar flare released yesterday so maybe it will be visible.
