This is exactly the kind of cop-ICE collaboration we’ve been warning about. Local Robstown police straight-up lied to lure Marina Claros outside Lucy’s Tacos so they could hand her to ICE, ripping a working mom away from her severely disabled son.

The family is in crisis, lost wages, bills piling up, care needs, and legal fight ahead.

I think it’s time for us to acknowledge our responsibility of ever having any trust in slave patrol.

Police chief said he’d ordered them not to actively work with ICE and then an officer actively worked with ICE. Either he’s lying or the officer should be getting disciplined, up to firing. Sounds like he doesn’t really have command of the police force.

In the U.S., isn’t the sheriff an elected position? Why don’t people vote in somebody who will dismantle the corpo corrupt racist trigger-happy enabling system and rebuild it as a service to the citizens?

“Sheriffs” and “police” aren’t quite the same thing. Sheriffs are elected, but police commissioners are appointed/hired by the mayor (or similar chief executive official.) The news anchor says she was duped by a “police officer,” not a “sheriff’s deputy.”

(Yes, it is weird and fucked-up that we have a bunch of different kinds of law enforcement with overlapping jurisdictions and responsibilities, thanks for asking!)
