I never gave much thought to Burning Man until about a month ago, when I discovered their MOOP Map: a thorough, remarkable accounting of what 70,000 people left behind. Each year, 150 people stick around after the event to do a crime scene-like walk across the playa. Not only are they picking up any debris, they’re LOGGING IT ALL. It takes weeks. Then they map it and release it to the public.

I wrote about this map in my data newsletter this week. I’m just obsessed with it. The process and the map itself are pretty incredible.
