I will never forgive the ABC for going the clickbait route.

The reasons are: 1- governments will not regulate as it accounts for $7 Billion in tax revenue. 2- sporting organisations receive a considerable amount in advertising revenue.

Its so bad over east. I remember visiting family when i’s young, seeing these huge cavernous ‘clubs’ half filled with pokies, other half a buffet style dinner hall. I thought where is the RSL bit of this place?

This has been the case for a long time, unfortunately. Australia is even worse than Las Vegas in terms of gambling losses. 20% of the world’s slot machines are in Australia (and they’re widespread in a lot of venues, not just casinos), a huge percentage of Aussies say they’re regular gamblers, and per-capita gambling losses in Australia are far higher than any other country.

Pokies mostly catch the boomers / older genx, liminals and millennials have been sportsbetted and the fucking cup is ‘just a bit of fun’.

Genz are either too broke to bet or so broke they’re desperate enough to bet

I am all for banning pokies and casinos though, on balance, they add misery to the world.

If it was banned it would not stop gambling, just have to look to places like China, where offshore gambling is massive.
