A Minnesota county attorney may pursue charges against federal officers for alleged misconduct during an immigration crackdown in the Minneapolis area

A Minnesota prosecutor announced an investigation Monday that may lead to charges against federal officers, including Border Patrol official Greg Bovino, for misconduct during an immigration enforcement crackdown.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said in a news conference that her office is already looking into 17 cases, including one where Bovino threw a smoke canister at protesters on Jan. 21. Another on Jan. 7 involved federal officers making an arrest outside a high school and deploying chemical irritants while students and staff were in the area.

“Make no mistake, we are not afraid of the legal fight, and we are committed to doing this correctly,” Moriarty said. “Operation Metro Surge caused immeasurable harm to our community.”

Our political leaders could simply threaten to arrest ice officers. That alone would have a chilling effect on their outrageous conduct.

Oh right. Yeah, that’s not at all a fight that the Trump administration is spoiling for. And when no arrests materialise (because the police support ICE) or no charges materialise (because you cared more about headlines than results) you’ve pissed away any hope of achieving anything. You look weak because you failed and Trump wins.

There’s only two approaches that work here: by the book, or by the bullet. And if you choose the bullet, you’d better hope you have enough of 'em.

You’ve clearly already been defeated in your own mind.

If you wanna go commit violence that’s on you.

I’m saying politicians can stand to do more politicing. Actual arrests are immaterial. The rhetoric is what matters and we’ll never win if we act defeated or violent.

No, I just have a different opinion than you on what is strong if you’re not committing to violent revolution. To reject fascism means you need a) to follow the rule of law and b) not talk about shit you can’t actually achieve.
