Europe loves to pretend they’re sovereign actors who stand up against their master, but when push comes to shove, they fall right back in line like a good lapdog.
It doesn’t help that the current crop of ghoulish EU leaders such as von der Leyen and Kallas are as pro-Amerikkkan as they can get. Whenever the US threatens them, they downplay it and somehow find a way to make it about Russia instead.
They don’t really want to give up their cozy position within the imperialist superstructure, which they’ve greatly benefited from for a long time. Instead, they cling on to this desperate hope of weathering the storm until EU-US relations eventually normalize and they can take their rightful place again, possibly under new US leadership.
At this stage, there’s a higher chance of European infighting (like the recent disagreements and growing rivalry between Germany and France) than any serious confrontation between Europe and the US.
