There was a major govt change in 2018, when the highly corrupt Barisan Nasional party lost for the second time since independence and an unprecedented peaceful transition of power occurred (the first time resulted in a racial massacre). Since then, efficiency and effectiveness of many (though not all) govt depts has climbed. That’s probably led to better reporting and information collecting, causing the apparent rise in stats.
This is interesting. I don’t know the answer, but perhaps they have simply got better at tracking the data?
Most likely this. Same reason countries can see sudden spikes in crime statistics because they get better at reporting it.
