Russia and Ukraine should negotiate an end to their conflict to avoid the war spilling over into Belarus, President Alexander Lukashenko, a key ally of Vladimir Putin, said in an interview with Russian state television.

Yeah. Lukashenko knows the war is really unpopular with his people and that supporting Russia with troops would be a death sentence for him.

That Lukashenko didn’t even condem the Ukrainian counterinvasion shows how much of a minefield this war is for him.

Why would Belarusians side with Russia… it aint like Russians were “nicer” to them than ukrainains, georgians, moldovans, kazakhs, balts, chenchens, jfc i am getting tired listing them. you get the vibe…

Because Russian troops are stationed within a day’s travel of Minsk and the country depends on Russia for ocean access?

Same reason Kazakhs have traditionally supported Russia, until they got that new shipping route built that bypasses Russia entirely.

Moreso, Russia has actively supported the current Belarusian government including helping to put down protests in Belarus.

Neither is credible: they also claim that the weapons were made in Russia, not that they were given by Russia. Remember the whole “soviet union” thing, where a lot of Eastern European countries still have leftover arms and ammunition from?
