Can someone explain what is this? Why does it look like 30 years old news?
It’s an old desktop environment that used to be the standard for Unix workstations.
KDE and Gnome were heavily influenced by it.
And it’s still maintained and just released a new version.do some people still choose unix or is it just to support legacy infrastructure?
Some commercial Unix systems still exist, but are being phased out.
BSD is also a Unix system.
However, this desktop environment also runs in Linux. Why people still use it, I don’t know. But there doesn’t have to be a good reason, as long as someone thinks it’s worthwhile to maintain it, it’ll keep existing.OpenBSD people and those who don’t like “bloat” seem to like DEs like CDE.
