According to the documentation there should be 5 personality options available as a Plus user.

Yet, the only options available to me is Default. I tried a different browser in case it was some terrible web scripting but it is the same.

Does anyone else also only have Default? Is it maybe some undisclosed slow rollout option that didn’t take me?

A friend of mine also doesn’t have these options. I am thinking maybe it is not available in Italy

I haven’t used ChatGPT in a long while, but when I did, you could include something like “In the style of William Shatner as James T Kirk” or “In a very fun, casual tone” or etc to any prompt and get that in your reply.

I realize it is not exactly the same, nor does it solve your tech issue if it’s not even offering you the dropdown choice from the other screenshot, but I never tried anything like that via prompt which didn’t seem to work.

Unfortunately current versions seem to partially ignore such instructions as the system prompt is programmed to take precedence, and personality feature is in the system prompt.

Well that does suck. I recognize where I am, but just one more way these AI companies seem to be pretty effing shady.

I said partially because it does acknowledge the instructions and will try to follow it partially. It helps a lot if the conversation started with a certain tone, and will try to continue that way.

Start a conversation with GPT5 Fast for cheerful or friendly tones, start with GPT5 Thinking for more serious answers and tones. What model you use later in the chat matters little, but going from Fast to Thinking does show very clearly the more serious tone but will still “wrap it around” your previous funny tone. This is at least what I noticed on Default. GPT5 Fast is pretty much a dumb yes-man, so if you are talking about serious topics but still wants its tone use it for the first message only.
