I just updated the sidebar. As a rule of thumb, if you cannot tell this joke to a 5-year-old, you should probably post it to the new community [email protected]

Dunno. Always seemed straightforward to me. That community consists of millions of people and necessitated a broader view of the dadjoke definition than a single cultural or geographical view.

People who didn’t want to view NSFW jokes could simply not open them. In theory everyone could have the experience they wanted and work with the definition of dadjoke they wanted. I was always puzzled by the people who opened NSFW jokes just to be offended. Like don’t open them?

I guess the nice thing about Lemmy is you can have both “dadjokes” community views via different servers - and again the users can have the experience they desire as long as they choose to.

Dad jokes are jokes that dads tell their kids. They’re silly and harmless in nature. Of course every rule has its exceptions, but that’s what they are. Exceptions. A barrage of NSFW jokes therefore goes against the spirit of what a dad joke is.
