For people who got unfairly banned under the new Musk appeasement rules. Buy a reddit account? Use a VPN? Would like to not use reddit but there’s niche communities that don’t exist anywhere else.
…Why?
Why waste your time on that removed? This is the same site, that bans lots of communities it thinks is ‘wrong’ but keeps places like r/poop alive (I guess because Spez is a closet scat lover). The same site that openly bows to Musk while burying people like Swartz.
You’re not saying anything when you circumvent bans, you’re only wasting your own time and effort doing so. Oh good for you, you’ve evaded a ban, you’re just slapping a countdown timer on yourself until you’re banned again. Because people can’t resist repeating past behaviors that wound them in trouble in the first place.
If they’re going to now ban you because of the arbitrary rules of a sycophant, then stay off. How many damn signs do you need that Reddit is cancer?
VPN is a no-go reddit will detec tit and shadowban you eventually. you would have to use a different, IP, different browser or a new device.
more sophisticated methods involve purchases new devices, accounts, privacy(anti-detection browsers) proxies, but these are for people who actually invest and earn money from multitude of accts, like hundreds or thousands accts. not feasible for the single account user. additional your new android device, can be bought on the cheap would be using its own data plan seperate from your home IPS. i know a forum that would give you tools how to do this, but this involve spending money, this is meant for people who got banned from reddit, but made money off the links, promotions/OF accts.
you will have to use a new browser other than firefox or chrome, mostly like a fork of these, new IP or new device.
dont comment in the same subs you were banned, reddit can detect the same patterns, your same style of writing. creating a new account seems extremely risky , even as a normal user to begin with reddit apparently does not like new users.
Beam me up, Professor Falken!
Move on, get a hobby to replace the consumption.
Honestly the lack of content on lemmy got me bored enough to actually return to worldbuilding, playing video games, composing music, and making video games.
Reddit is just text form TikTok at this point with ragebait and negative content anyway
Reddit probably inserts an evercookie into your browser.
Best way to evade a lifeban is to :
-
Install a new browser, give it a very different user agent string. Reinstalling the old browser doesn’t always work as it is a FUCKING PERSISTENT evercookie
-
reboot your router, get a new IP address
-
wait 24 hours
-
Create new account
Congrats, reddit now has no idea you are the person they banned 2 days ago
DO NOT LOG IN TO ANY OF YOUR OLD ACCOUNTS EVER AGAIN (even unbanned ones) or you WILL be banned
This is from 3 years of intense personal experience
-
Use Lemmy instead.
You asked a straight-forward question and got irrelevant responses you didn’t ask for based on their own priorities… As they’re browsing a Reddit community… on Lemmy. Weirdman. There are other reasons to be on Reddit, obviously, and you can simultaneously grow this community while having a foot there as well.
To answer your question: To my knowledge, Reddit uses a mixture of IP banning, Web Browser fingerprinting, and behavioral analysis (e.g., which subs you frequent, upvote, etc.). I think the IP ban only lasts so long — some things I’ve read after 100 days (except original registration IP)? After all, IPs are not often static for an individual or may be a gateway for many users. Which is why they associate an IP with a web browser fingerprint. They not only pull the cookies, but additional info independent of cookies about the browser used but other information like your computer monitor setup are utilized.
TOR browser used to work, but Reddit changed their log-in page and its CAPTCHA requirements fuck with its log-in.
VPN + Incognito alternative browser from what you traditionally use, or if you really want to get fancy, a VM instance. DO NOT use your phone that was linked to your banned account either to log on. Alternatively you may be able to request a new IP from your ISP? You basically have to come up with a scenario that gives a plausible scenario that you are a different user than the other person who was banned.
Yeah I agree, besides ban evading is the ultimate “fuck you” you can give reddit why would you want to stop? (Besides it being a pain in the ass ofc I myself gave up for the time being but still)
Create the communities here and spread the gospel
According to chat-gpt if everything else fails get a new device and enter reddit from a place you have never entered before
Use old.reddit and just lurk content
Never comment.
For mobile:
Use a VPN (different from the one if currently using)
Get a new phone
Switch from Google to Apple or vice versa (all accounts)
Write and post in a different writing style
Visit very few of the same subs from previous accounts
Get a new ISP
Reddit is an addiction. You must break yourself of it.
If Lemmy doesn’t have what you’re looking for, you can typically find what you need on Discord or forums (some still exist).
Remember: Reddit has a lot of Americans using it. So where do all the non-Americans operate? The answer is where you need to go.
Yeah break yourself of reddit addiction and join lemmy addiction
If you want to continue using a platform that actively does the nonsense… just avoid the nonsense. Keep politics and global events out of your posts and you should be fine. If you’re going to reddit to be part of niche communities, be about those communities and don’t stray.
Yeah I literally just go to check game subs if there’s an update and I don’t see it here
It’s not hard
Make an acct on public wifi and then always browse with a VPN on when logged in at home/whatever network you were originally banned on. It’s worked for me for a few years now
i was able to partially evade some sub bans for misconstrued statements by making it on university computer system
So just go to a place like Starbucks and make an account and what vpn are you using?
