A NSW man has gone to great lengths to cash in on recycling, returning almost half a million cans over seven years to save for his first home.

But over the course of seven years, he managed to collect about $46,000 worth.

His can and bottle money was enough for the 36-year-old to put down a deposit on a two-bedroom home on the NSW Central Coast last year.

While he holds down a permanent job during the week, Mr Gordon also volunteers at events like music festivals, where he collects thousands of cans and bottles at a time.

Some of these events like weddings and music festivals, they produce so much waste."

    It looks like it’s framed as a ‘good news’ story, but:

    • Almost 40 yrs old
    • Works full time
    • Needed to spend 7 years working (presumably more) and collecting 450,000 cans
    • To be able to put a deposit on a two bedroom house on the central coast.

    Like how is any of that good news?

      These stories always feel like they’re a propaganda piece by business to encourage people to work harder and to suffer through it as if there is some means to an end to it all. Your points exactly identify the fucking insanity of the whole situation.

      I guess he did meet some bands though.
