  • Commenting from my other account rather than editing since I’m on another device, but in the meantime I remembered that actually drag’s thing was that the pronoun was ‘drag’ in first, second and third person, not just third; Grammatically that would mean addressing drag in second person as “what do drag think about this?” (or more realistically, just never addressing drag in second person). However, drag was also most likely a troll trying to make fun of people using pronouns that are not the default ones assigned as birth. Drag got a bit belligerent when someone messed up using drag’s pronoun, whether accidentally or on purpose.

  • The advice works, but only if you have the strength to do it and not everyone does.

Realize that some of these aren’t just decisions you have to get right every day (like walking every day), they’re decisions you have to get right 86400 times a day. If you crave junk food, you don’t just decide “I’ll stop eating it”, you have to make that decision every second of every day, because if you slip once, you’re fucked. It gets easier, sure, but the first days/weeks are brutal.

  • Nothing special either way about her appearance before, but Megan Fox was legitimately one of the most beautiful women alive. Though I don’t think she did it for Trump’s approval at least (she started pretty early with the first boob job), I suspect it was her own insecurity and I’m not going to be judgemental of that, we’ve all got our issues.

  • I mean nothing against walking in general, but when it’s super cold or super hot, it’s much nicer to spend that time in a climate-controlled interior than outside. Especially before I got a heat pump installed so I could actually get some breathable air at home in the summer, the car was the only AC I had access to.

The 16 minutes also gets me about 20 kilometers away versus about a kilometer for the walk. I MIGHT get to the closest store in that time.

  • We don’t need doctors and nurses as long as we have claim approvers!

But that would actually allow to reduce the amount of claim approvers.

Why the fuck can’t you see a better solution would be nationalizing the rest of the healthcare providers

It’s a better solution, but much harder to achieve, particularly in such a large country. How do you forcibly nationalize hundreds of thousands of healthcare providers at once? Keep in mind, most of them aren’t Kaiser Permanente sized. Tons of businesses are one or two doctors, their nurses and front desk, if they even have a front desk employee.

Medicare for all could easily be a start, it does not preclude building a bigger nationally-owned network of providers.

Imagine this: All the VA hospitals remain government owned exactly as they are now, but everyone gets access to them, not just veterans. But since there aren’t enough for everyone, you can alternatively go to a private provider if they’ve signed a medicare contract, and to you the cost is the same - and to the government, the cost is decided by a regulatory body, NOT the private healthcare provider. If the private provider doesn’t agree to that pricing, they lose access to the medicare network and get fewer patients. Some doctors at the top of their specialty will refuse, because people will be willing to pay extra to see them, but most providers would prefer having the ability to treat literally everyone without having to worry about billing issues.

The government can then build more nationalized hospitals, particularly in areas where there aren’t enough private providers that choose to partner up with medicare.

Even most (all?) countries that have nationalized healthcare, allow for private providers, and many allow private providers to provide services to the national health insurance system if they agree to the terms. Medicare for all could be a stepping stone towards a similar system, where the share of nationalized providers can grow over time.

  • Nice!

Any other dangerous critters in Australia that one should be aware of though? I’m aware of all the memes about how everything in Australia wants to kill you, but I have no idea of the reality and haven’t ever been myself - probably want to visit one day because I know you guys have some really beautiful nature, but it’s far enough away that the cost and flight time make it somewhat of an ordeal compared to a 3 hour flight to another corner of Europe for a weekend getaway
