If you abstain from voting then you’re basically lumping yourself in with people who don’t care or actually are fine with the status quo. If you cast a blank vote then you’re expressing your disapproval of all the candidates. Essentially saying “I’m willing to vote, but it won’t be for any of you guys”. This would make sense if the system worked but it doesn’t.

Why is there a lemmy.ml and a lemmygrad.ml?
So I need a lemmy.ml account if I want to comment on most things?
The death toll from communism comes from the black book of communism which was written by a staunch anti-communist who seeked out to prove communism killed 100 million people which is why it includes nazi deaths and people who weren’t even born as victims of communism.
People should vote to gauge strength, show solidarity with their movement and demonstrate how to those unaware that the system isn’t working and therefore requires replacing it with one that will.

Comradeship // Freechat@lemmygrad.ml•Why did monarchists have to steal *my* color?
6·1 year agoIt’s a fun tid bit to say that purple was a rare dye so it got used by and associated with royalty. Because it was rare it’s also the least common colour on flags.
I don’t think people associate it with royalty anymore now that we can mass produce all kinds of colours though.
We already arrest people for animal abuse, eating meat just isn’t considered animal abuse by current society. If society needlessly killing animals as animal abuse then those responsible for killing billions of animals each year from factory farms will have a high price to pay.
Personally I don’t believe things should go further than life in prison.
Animals don’t think beyond “this is tasty”.
Does it give them sufficient nutrients? Are they getting enough stimulation and exercise from not having to hunt their food? If so then it doesn’t matter what you feed them.
“Tankies” don’t exist.
People who unironically use the word “tankie” would say it’s someone who uncritically supports communist governments, but if you ever look at someone using it, it’s always because they are uncritically against all communist governments and so they interpret nuance or historical understanding as blind loyalty to communism.

Comradeship // Freechat@lemmygrad.ml•Do some people just regurgitate arguments blindly?
2·1 year agoThere are animal welfare groups. Some even break into factory farms to expose how unethical they are. Countries even put up laws from filming in slaughter houses because they know how shit they are.

3·1 year agoAlso I already said that without an organised boycotting effort no change can be done.
Yeah the fact that its a boycot is the problem. Its liberal individualist thinking.

Going vegan is a boycott lmao
If I were to go vegan I’d be the only one.
Same argument as before “I’m one person I can’t make a difference” - 1 billion people not making a difference.

3·1 year agoYour argument is literally “1 billion people won’t go vegan overnight, so why should I?”

Damage mitigation isn’t the only thing. By voting for the party you support you’re showing solidarity with that movement and also demonstrating to everyone else how the system doesn’t work.
